Apple pie. Seriously, can any two words make you any hungrier? I just ate dinner and now, as I'm writing this post, I'm craving another piece of this pie I made earlier today.
I mean, look at this thing. It's beautiful! And so tasty!
The filling is my own creation, but the crust I got from here. It's called The Perfect Pie Crust and it really is.
Apple Pie Filling:
7 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
a couple squirts lemon juice
3 tbsp flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
3 tbsp cold butter (cut into small cubes)
1 egg
Preheat oven to 450.
Start by peeling, coring, and slicing your apples. Squirt lemon juice on them and toss. The lemon juice keeps the apples from turning brown. Add in the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir until the apples are coated well.
Pour apple mixture into the pie pan with your Perfect Pie Crust. Dot with butter. Cover with your second piece of crust. Cut a few slits into the top crust with a knife to let any steam escape.
Crack your egg and put in a small bowl. Beat. Brush egg on top of crust. This egg wash really helps the crust brown nicely.
Bake for 45 minutes.
After you take the pie out of the oven, let it cool for 15 minutes if you can. I couldn't. :) my only regret is that I didn't have any whipping cream to dollop on top.
Enjoy!
