Ruffle Skirt

This sweet little ruffle skirt came about because of SEVERAL miscalculations for a skirt for me.

I had originally intended to make a circle skirt for myself until I realized that this was a 45" wide fabric and once I cut out the waist it would be too short for my comfort level. Maybe it wouldn't be too short for some, but definitely for me.

So, then I decided to make a ruffle skirt for me. But that didn't work out either. Just not enough fabric to ruffle around me. So, Miss Thing got to benefit from my misfortunes. That's ok though it looks much cuter on her than it would have on me. Don't you just love my little model's hand-on-the-hip serious face?

Now that I've made this one, I might just try one for myself. And maybe a tutorial if I can get all the kinks worked out.

Show & Tell Features

I had such a hard time choosing features this week. There were so many great projects! Finally I narrowed it down to these.

Family Home and Life shared this fantastic Peanut Butter & Jelly Game. PB&J is my daughter's favorite food, and I bet it would be her favorite game too.

You know I recently posted my own adventures in homemade cosmetics, so when Soap Deli News posted this DIY Homemade Moisture Rich Lip Gloss Recipe, I had to check it out. She not only shares the recipe, but WHY each ingredient is included.

Shamrock T-Shirt Applique

Love this picture of my baby. She's such a sweetie!

I wanted to do a little something for the girls for St. Patrick's Day, but I also wanted to keep it simple. So I bought a 1/4 yard of this green polka dot fabric and cut out some shamrock shapes.

A little Heat n Bond and in just a few minutes I have a cute t-shirt for my girls. I made another one for my 3-year old too, but I didn't get hers photographed. Instead, she wanted me to take pictures of her new ruffle skirt; more on that later this week.

Love these sweet giggles!

And I just HAD to put in this picture. Look at that running form; those high knees, that arm drive, that determination on her face. She's gonna be a track star!

Foodie Friday: Pinterest Props

Are you interested in sharing some of your recipes on my weekly Foodie Friday posts? I'm looking for some of you amazing chefs out there to guest post. Shoot me an email if you're interested.
Pinterest Props
We all know there are a ton of food recipes on Pinterest, but are they all as good as they look? I'm going to test a few each month and post my results the last Friday of each month.

Sweet and Sour Chicken by Daydream Kitchen.
I'm not a huge sweet & sour fan, but this from scratch recipe was too tempting not to try. And I'm so glad I did. It was really tasty and my husband and kids thought it was great! The 3 - 5 chicken breasts were a LOT of food for my little family especially after you add some rice and veggies. So, next time (and yes, there will be a next time) I might try to cut the recipe in half.

Baked Creamy Chicken Taquitos by Chef in Training

These are on my freezer meals list. They make a great in a rush meal. It's fairly easy to whip up a double or triple batch of these crunchy taquitos, flash freeze them and save to heat up in a pinch. Serve for with sour cream or salsa to dip.

Pesto Pasta with Chicken Sausage and Roasted Brussel Sprouts by Gimme Some Oven

I was a little unsure about this recipe simply because of the pesto and sausage. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE pesto but the chicken sausage with pesto...I just wasn't sure. Oh, my goodness! I LOVE this recipe. It's different from our usual recipes, very tasty, and surprisingly quick to make.

I used a penne instead of the orrichiette and it was fine. Hubs even took the leftovers to work - twice.

Fabric Strips Skirt

A few months ago I won an Amy Butler fat quarter bundle from Imagine Fabrics on the Craftiness is Not Optional blog. YAY! I love free stuff and free craft stuff even better.

So, I have been slowly working my way though the various fabrics. The great thing about bundles are that the fabrics are already coordinated for you. I already used one piece as the backing for my hair accessory organizer. Lately though, I've been on a skirt kick. I guess I'm just ready for spring. It must be true; I've said and typed it like a thousand times already this week. One more just for good measure.....I'm REALLY, REALLY ready for spring. Warm weather please come soon!!

Ok, enough of that. Back to the skirts.

I cut the fat quarters into strips and then sewed them back together in alternating patterns. I added some elastic for the waist and hemmed. It was easily one of the simplest skirts I've ever made. I didn't do a tutorial, because if you've ever sewed, you can probably figure this out. (If you haven't sewed anything before this would be a great beginners project. If you do want a tutorial, let me know and I can put one together.)

I had a nearly impossible task of taking pictures of this one. Neither or my girls wanted to cooperate. The littlest one thought we were playing chase and kept running away from me.

So, we moved to a small area in the hall where she couldn't run away from me. She could however run back and forth making it really hard for me to get a decent shot.

This was the closest to 'still' she got.

My big girl didn't want to take pictures. So, sneaky mom that I am, took her outside to jump in the 'puddles' aka the wet driveway. The only problem was she wouldn't face me either. Every time I walked around her to take a picture of her face, she'd turn away.

So I waited until another day. We fared better, but I sure did get some silly faces. Ah, some very real pictures of my little sugar dumplin'.

Show & Tell Features

Happy Tuesday everyone! Have you entered the Rakun Shop giveaway yet? Don't miss it. This shop is too cute to pass up!

I've been sewing up a ton of skirts lately. I know it's not spring yet; made obvious by the snow we got over the weekend, but I just can't help it. I'm so ready for the warmer weather and pretty spring colors.

In the meantime, take a look at this beautiful snow! We don't get a lot here in the South (thank goodness - if you can't tell, I'm not a fan of cold weather), but I do enjoy the occasional flurries.

Here are some of my favorite posts from last week's Show and Tell party.

Smart School House painted the tips of some pasta. It's not edible, but it is pretty and would make some lovely decorations.

I love the unexpected dip-painted legs on this chair by Atkinson Drive.
